Description
This course introduces classical Indian philosophy, beginning with the Vedic texts and their context. We explore the Vedas and Brahmanas, focusing on rituals meant to maintain cosmic order, and the responsibilities of the priests. We’ll also examine the Aranyakas, texts that shifted the focus from external rituals to inner reflection and meditation, paving the way for the Upanishads.
The Upanishads teach that the individual soul and the universal soul (Brahman) are one. Lastly, we’ll look at how these ideas led to Hindu philosophical schools, like Yoga, whose wisdom remains relevant in addressing today’s complex challenges.
